BRISTOL OSCAR was founded in 1984 to raise awareness of Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia in the Bristol area.

The Bristol Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia Centre was established in July 1991 as a base for counselling, information and educational resources on Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Disorders.
The centre is committed to working in partnership with health and local authorities to improve the quality of life of sufferers and their carers.
It is a unique resource in Bristol, used by people with the disorders, their carers, health professionals, statutory and voluntary organizations and members of the general public. It provides information, counselling, outreach work and support.
The centre employs a part-time Centre Coordinator, and a Community Outreach Worker, to run the centre.
It is an independent charitable organization, managed by a committee of volunteers who are democratically elected at an Annual General Meeting.
The centre is maintained by fund-raising activities, donations and grants from public and private organizations, and a contract with Bristol NHS.
The Centre is open:
Monday - Thursday: 10:00am - 4:00pm
Friday: 10:00am - 1:00pm
